Semester Two, Blog #14

1. The major people and places that affected my grandpa would have to be Lieutenant X, the president and Germany. Lieutenant X was his company commander, he was the man that assigned my grandpa on all of his missions and assignments. Most of them were deciding factors of whether he lived or died during the war.

A. One thing that would have drastically changed my grandpa's life is not getting the information that Auschwitz was liberated. His company hearing this had such a moral boost that saved his life in the up coming days, since they were hunkered down under attack.
B. Another thing was another moral boost, that also bummed his company out a little bit. Hearing news of the battle of the bulge was a big hit to the moral of the company. It got them into a few sticky situations that shouldn't have happened.

Both of these were big parts in history, the bigger ones being the bombing, for this it was the real end of the war for my grandpa, by then he was in the hospital. So this was a big relax for him, he found out that the war was over and he would never have to go back.

So I was half a pacifist and half a warrior.

This was a line from my grandpa's story about his time spent in WWII and he is talking about how he is split on his different sides of his family.
I want to do a person who looks half pacifist and then the other half be a solider or a warrior.

I may be old-fashioned in my ideas, but women run around too much

The Great Gatsby

Tom talks about how women are too flirtatious and how they fool around with too many different people.

I am going to have a pot with a speech bubble with this quote in it, the pot will be speaking to either a woman or a kettle, i'm still undecided.

1. "Did Google Maps almost cause a war in 2010? On Nov. 3 of that year, Edén Pastora, the Nicaraguan official tasked with dredging the Rio San Juan, justified his country’s incursion into neighboring Costa Rica’s territory by claiming that, contrary to the customary borderline, he wasn’t trespassing at all. For proof, he said, just look at Google Map" I think that it is completely hilarious that the general used google maps to decide where he could send his trop instead of using treaties and or documents. I also think that it is odd that google maps can almost cause a war because of some research errors. Just because one map maker decided that the border was in a certain place two countries almost started warring with each other. It goes to show how powerful certain things are, like google.

I picked this because it supports my claim that it is completely hilarious that the military invaded because of google maps. It just shows how massive that company has gotten, it can be used as grounds to invade a country. I think that this supports my ideas of google at some point taking over the world.

3. How can google have this much power?

Why did someone think that google maps is a trustworthy source for a border dispute?

Is the general justified in sending his troops over the "border"?

Semester Dos, Blog 9

I think what makes a great forum post is a post that answers a question and asks many more. A great online conversation if fueled by good questions that can be interpreted many ways. That is why you need posts that answer and ask questions, so that people can be fulfilled but still learning.

I think i have done exactly what i have said to do above, in all of my post i have kindly answered someone's question with my own opinion and then asked a question related to the topic.

I think that i can start to add more direct evidence into my post wether that is putting certain quotes or just citing pages that have the ideas on them.

"Their intrest rather touched me and made them less emotionally rich -- nevertheless, i was confused and a little disgusted as a drove away. it seemed to me that the thing for Daisy to do was the rush out of the house, child in arms -- but apparently there were no suck intentions in her head."

This connects to flappers because it is the exact opposite of what flappers are. During that age there were the traditional women and then flappers, Daisy is more of a traditional women instead of a flapper. I think that being oppressed as women were it forced them to become more of flappers.

"This is a valley of ashes -- a fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and grotesque gardens."

This connects to the Guilded Age because Nick, a rich guy is commenting on the poor working class that was still very prominent during the Guilded Age. It is a perfect representation of this age because you have the elite that are rising represented by Nick and Tom, and then the poor underclass that is the valley of ashes.

"In the main hall a bar with a real brass rail was set up, and stocked with gins liquors and with cordials so long forgotten that most of his female guests were too young to know one from another"This connects Prohibition because this is during the prohibition but he still has a full bar and isn't very discrete about it at all. this kind of tells me that just because he lives on east egg he can violate certain laws and the police wont really care.
